Hey Dolls! So I've been promising for months that I was going to do an updated makeup routine and for one reason or another I never really got round to it but finally I found the time and here it is; my winter makeup routine. I must say I'm pretty much a creature of habit and my routine hasn't really changed much from my previous one but I've branched out and incorporated some new items. Anyway, I don't want this post to be too long so I'll get right into it.
First thing I do before I apply any makeup is prep my skin for the makeup and this involves moisturising my skin with my Cuticura shine control moisturiser and applying some lip balm on to my lips. I use whatever lip balm I have handy but I have been enjoying using my Body shop Honeymania lip balm which is so moisturising and nourishing for my lips which get so dry during this time of year. I then follow up by priming my face with a mattifying primer and my favourite to use is the Kiko Mat Base primer which keeps my makeup on all day long.
After prepping my skin I get my eyebrows on fleek! I don't use any fancy shmancy products for my brows; as long as I have my dark brown MUA eyebrow pencil I'm good. I use this pencil to outline my brows and then I fill in the tail of my brows with the pencil and then go in with an eyebrow powder for the front and middle of my brows. I'm currently using a dark brown eyebrow powder from the Laura Paige eyebrow kit and I haven't been using it long but I really do like it and it was as cheap as chips from my local pharmacy. After I'm happy with my brows I clean around them and carve them out with a small flat brush and a concealer to define them a bit more and get my shape nice and clean.
After my brows are done and I'm happy I then move on to my base. I have been loving a full coverage look this winter and to achieve this I usually alternate between three different foundations; Mac Matchmaster in 7.5, Maybelline Fit Me SPF18 foundation in 355 Coconut and the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation also in 355 Coconut. On days where my skin is feeling a little dry I tend to go for the Fit Me SPF18 foundation but on other days when my skin is feeling more normal/oily I reach for the other two and on this particular day I went for my trusted Matchmaster which is a holy grail product for me that I have raved about before in a previous blog. I love it's meduim to full coverage which hides all my imperfections and I love its matte finish which makes my skin matte without looking dusty.
After foundation I go in with two concealers a couple of shades lighter than my skin to highlight underneath my eyes, the bridge of my nose, my cupid's bow, my chin and a little on my forehead. I am currently mixing Fawn and Warm Honey by LA Girl to achieve that highlighted look and I really do like this combination. These concealers are super blendable and so easy to use and they're also really affordable which is a win in my books.
After my base is done I set it with powder and I use my Ben Nye Banana powder to set my highlighted areas and then I go in with my MAC pressed blot powder in dark deep to set the rest of my face. I do this to make sure my makeup stays put all day long, especially if I'm in for a long day or night.
Base set, I move on to contouring and at the moment I'm using my LA Pro Concealer in dark cocoa which I set with my Kiko Silk Pearl Illuminating Bronzer in Sienna which you may have seen in my Kiko haul not too long ago. I absolutely love contouring, it just gives my face so much definition and dimension and it gives me cheek bones! Win!
After I get my cheekbones on deck, I go back to my eyes and do my winged liner with my MUA liquid eyeliner in black and I also go into my waterline with a black pencil liner and I'm currently using a Lancome pencil liner in black. After I apply eye liner I pile on the mascara real thick! Like no lie, I literally go in with about 3-4 coats of mascara before I'm satisfied because I just wasn't blessed in the eyelash department but hey, thank God for mascara right? I'm currently trying out a sample of the Bare Minerals Lash Domination mascara and I'm absolutely loving it! This mascara thickens and lengthens my top and bottom eyelashes and I will definitely be buying it once I'm out of this sample.
After me eyes are done I add some colour back into my face and my favourite blusher at the moment is Sahara by Sleek. Sahara is a deep burnt orange which looks absolutely gorgeous on all skin types but it looks particularly amazing on dark and olive skin tones. After blusher I move on to my favourite part of my routine which is highlighting. I absolutely love highlighting and the more highlight the better if you ask me. I tend to mix two or three highlights for my desired "shine bright like a diamond" look but my favourite highlighter for everyday is the Collection Bronze Glow mosaic highlighter in sunkissed. I like this highlighter because it's multi-dimensional and it works well with a light hand and even when you over do it which I usually do lol.
After My face is all done, I then go in with a lipstick and having so many it's usually hard to choose but the lipsticks above are the ones I've been reaching for regularly during these colder months. I'm really into my dark autumnal colours with the odd nude here and there but my favourite lippie right now has to be my Plum Sensation matte lipstick from Collection which is a deep burgundy that works well for day and night.
The last step in my routine is to set my makeup with a mist or spray, I usually use the well known and loved Mac Fix Plus spray but I ran out a few months ago and I started using the Skyn Arctic Face Mist which I got as a gift and its been working just as good as Mac's fix plus to lock in my makeup and also to remove that powdery look I can sometimes get after using too many power products.
So that's it dolls, this is my current winter makeup routine and as you can see not much has changed with the exception of a few new products. I hope you enjoyed this post nonetheless and I hope I introduced you to some new products that you haven't yet tried or even heard of. Do you guys like the finished look? What kind of makeup looks do you guys go for during this time of year? Toodles!
