Hey dolls! For today's post I'm going to be reviewing this foundation from Maybelline's Fit Me collection in the shade 355 Coconut. I must admit that ever since college when I purchased my first Mac foundation, I have been somewhat of a foundation snob and haven't used a drugstore foundation unless it's for highlighting and contouring. Being an avid YouTube watcher however, I had been hearing great things about Maybelline's new Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation and I was dying to give it a try but of course it's not available in the UK because the US just has all the good stuff so I had to settle for the next best thing; Maybelline's Fit Me foundation.
I didn't have great expectations of this foundation mainly because I hadn't had much success with drugstore foundations in the past and also because I hadn't seen many reviews of this particular foundation, especially in this particular shade. I decided to brave it and to give it a whirl as it only retails for £7.99 and I must say I was rather impressed.
This foundation is an oil free, non-comedogenic light weight foundation which has a light to meduim coverage but it is also buildable. It is extremely breatheable and gives a demi-matte natural finish to the skin which is particularly great for this time of year. When I first applied it to the skin it looked very dewy and I was unsure about the finish as I have oily to normal skin type with a particularly oily t-zone this time of year and I was afraid that it would slip and slide all over my face but once it dried it gave a demi-matte appearance which allowed my skin's natural shades and tones to shine through. It is extremely light weight which I love because it does not look cakey on the skin at all and it allows your skin to look like skin. I set it with a powder once applied and it lasts very well on the skin with minimal touch-ups during the day which is essential for me as I can be quite busy. I am extremely impressed with this foundation and it's a great match to my skin which I wasn't expecting at all as there are very limited colours for women of colour in this collection.
I also love that this foundation is not too orange which is something I tend to find a lot with drugstore foundations targeted at women of colour. It has just the right amount of orange pigment to colour correct dark spots but not too much that it completely covers up the cooler tones and makes you look loke an oompa loompa. I don't tend too use concealer to cover up my blemishes as I don't like how heavy it can be on the skin and I was worried with this foundation being such a light coverage that it would not give me the coverage I needed especially over my blemishes but this foundation is totally buildable and I simply add another layer on the areas where I need that little bit more coverage. I must say I am very impressed with this foundation and will definitely keep it in my collection and use it a lot more this spring summer. I still love my Mac Matchmaster and I don't think any foundation can replace that for me but I'll definitely be alternating it with this foundation over the coming warmer months.
So that's enough raving about this foundation for me but I'd definitely recommend it for normal skin types in particular and would recommend use of a setting powder with it if you have an oily skin type like me. It is also great for those people that prefer a light to medium coverage foundation and it's great for warmer months or for holidays. Have any of you tried the Maybelline Fit Me foundations? What are your thoughts? Come back soon!
